We got spirit, yes we do! We got spirit, how ‘bout you?
National Library Week is upon us, and the theme is “Welcome to Your Library.” Let’s celebrate by welcoming our community into the library (physically or virtually) for a Spirit Week, a weeklong series of activities that encourage participation for a chance to win a prize.
Spirit Week? Like at school?
Yes! Exactly like that. Check the dates below for each daily theme. Participation will earn you an entry into a prize drawing. The prize winner will be contacted the Monday following National Library Week.
Spirit Week runs April 4 - 10
Each day from April 5 through April 10, visitors are encouraged to show their library spirit according to daily themes in order to enter the grand prize drawing. Daily themes include:
April 5 - Mismatched Monday
April 6 - Talent Show Tuesday
April 7 - Hawaiian Wear Wednesday
April 8 - Throwback Thursday
April 9 - Formal Friday
April 10 - SuperHero (& Villain) Saturday
Participants can earn multiple entries by participating each day. Participation includes visiting the library, submitting photos/videos to the library’s email or social media accounts, or posting on social media and tagging the library.
Themes explained
Mismatched Monday: dress up in clashing or mismatched patterns.
Talent Show Tuesday: show off your talent! Sing a song, turn a cartwheel, or paint (or draw) us a picture! Whatever your talent is, let your local library professionals celebrate it!
Hawaiian Wear Wednesday: dress up like you’re heading to a Lūʻau!
Throwback Thursday: Dig through the attic and don your best vintage wear!
Formal Friday: Dust off your ties and party dresses! Show off your best or favorite formal wear.
Superhero (or Supervillain) Saturday: Cosplay it up as your favorite superhero or supervillain.
ADL will also be having an egg hunt within the DARA borders throughout National Library Week. Community members of all ages should be on the lookout for plastic eggs with the library logo on them, which will be filled with a variety of fun prizes! All eggs will be sealed shut by the library to prevent tampering with the contents.
National Library Week is an event sponsored by the American Library Association and observed every April. This year, the first ever National Library Outreach Day will be celebrated on April 7, to honor library professionals and their work to promote libraries and their resources to community members. To share support or follow along with other National Library Week events, follow the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek on social media.
